Q. What has happened since that time? A. A MaSU/VCSU committee of faculty, staff, and students met to identify hardware and software standards. There was extensive consideration of notebook options and requests to many firms for information about pricing and support. The committee looked at both the Macintosh and Intel-based microprocessors. After collecting all the information, it was decided to standardize on IBM notebooks at VCSU and the Microsoft Office suite. GroupWise and Novell would be the e-mail and campus network standards. Campus networking was initiated. Notebook computers were acquired for faculty and staff training during the spring and summer of 1995. IBM ThinkPad 365EDs were distributed to faculty during fall pre-service activities at the start of the 1995-96 academic year. A search for a Help Desk director was completed. Return to FAQ Contents |
